Ease of use is the top reason that QEI Security & Technology customers love their security systems. A big part of that is the ability to customize all settings on the system – you are able to change these settings at any point using your smart phone app, touchscreen control panel or by logging into your system on a computer.

The smartphone app and touchscreen control panel on your wall offer only some of the settings that are available via the computer, so when your system is first installed, it is important that you log on via a computer to maximize what is available. If you’ve had your system for a while, you might also want to logon to see if any settings can be updated to work better for your lifestyle.

Home

This is your home screen – an at-a-glance window into what is going on with your system. You can move the information blocks around and add others based on how you use your system.

You can also control devices right from this screen.

Settings

Under the Settings menu, the Login Information screen allows you to update your username, password and email address (don’t forget to also notify QEI when you change your email address!). The Geo-Services screen allows you to set up a geo-fence. You could create a geo-fence around your home, the kids’ school and your office (you will also need to enable geo-services on your phone by going to the Alarm.com app menu and scrolling until you see Geo-Services). The Devices screen is where you can rename your devices (for example if the Tooth Fairy or Santa is coming). Coming soon, you will be able to use the Monitoring Station section to change your call list and secret passcode.

Users

The Users menu allows you to add/delete/change system users and people who have access to the system settings. Users are able to receive notifications via text and email and are usually assigned a 4-digit access code. Under the Manage Logins menu, you can manage who has access to the app and computer settings of the system (there are many different levels of permissions when you create a new login).

Notifications

The Notifications menu allows you to create notifications that users receive based on certain conditions. The +New Notification button offers ideas of the most common notifications. We recommend ALWAYS using the Unexpected Activity notification – that notification enables the system to learn your patterns and determine when something out of the ordinary happens. For example, if the front door is rarely opened after 11 p.m. and last night, it opened at midnight, you’ll receive a notification alerting you – it does not trigger your alarm, but gives you a heads up that something abnormal occurred.

Automation

The Automation menu is only used for locations that have home automation devices like a garage door controller, lighting control, smart door lock or smart thermostat. This is where you can set rules, schedules and scenes for these products.

Rules: You can set event-triggered, video or thermostat. You would use a rule when you want to trigger an action based on another action. For example, set my foyer light to turn on when the front door sensor opens.

Schedules: This function gives a specific device a set schedule. For example, set the porch lights to turn on at dusk and off at dawn. Or set the thermostat to turn down at 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Scenes: Each scene is one-button control of multiple devices. For example, the “Away” scene might lock the door, turn off the lights and arm the security system in away mode.
